In line with the development and economic growth in Indonesia, along came the growth and development of real estate activities. At that time there was no association that could accommodate the real estate brokers and practitioners in Indonesia, whilst other countries have formed similar associations.
This situation encouraged Drs Ferry Sonnerville who was then serving as Chairman of REI and FIABCI to invite some businessmen who were members of REI to jointly initiate the establishment of an association of real estate brokers. The first meeting was held in 1989 and this continued with regular meetings every week at Jalan Sungai Pawan South, Jakarta. Suggestions and feedback on the formation of this association was obtained from various circles and practitioners who all agreed to form an association with the name of Real Estate Brokers Association of Indonesia (AREBI).
AREBI was established unanimously by the founders, namely, Drs Ferry Sonnerville, Mohammad S Hidayat, Drs Enggartiasto Lukita, Budiarsa Sastrawinata, Ir. Sulistiyo Sidarto Mulyo, Velly Theisa, Frans Mardi, Tommy Sunyoto, Inca W Sianipar and Cynthia G Sonnerville by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on October 7, 1992. The inauguration of the establishment AREBI was held at Sahid Jaya Hotel on November 17, 1992 by the Minister for Public Housing Ir Siswono Yudohusodo as well as the Protem Committee for AREBI consisting of Cyinthia G Sonnerville as Chairman assisted by Frans Mardi and Tirta Setiawan and supported by some board members of REI, Agusman Effendi as Secretary General and Bagir Mulachella as Treasurer.

The "Cambodian Valuers and Estate Agents Association" was initially established on 8th August 2008 under the original name of "National Valuers Association of Cambodia (NVAC)" by the initiative of H.E. Dr. KeatChhon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economy and Finance. The organization obtained its registration with the Ministry of Interior on 27th November 2008. In order to extend its membership, on 7th April 2011, the Association changed its name to the "Cambodian Valuers and Estate Agents Association (CVEA)". On the 27th April 2009, the Association was adopted for the 8th full member of ASEAN Valuers Association-AVA in the international conference in HOI AN city, Viet Name. Since its establishment, CVEA has organized a numbers of high profile workshops, symposiums, and conferences at the national and international level. CVEA kicked start a workshop on license management and control for real estate agents and a conference on the first public bond, respectively in September and October 2008. From 20-22 July 2011, CVEA and the MEF co-organized the 17th pre-conference of ASIAN Valuers Association in Siem Reap under the theme of "Together for better future development" and a workshop on "Regional Real Estate Investment Outlook". Since September 2012, CVEA has organized a series of activities to promote professionalism in the sector, including training sessions for real estate Valuers and Agents.

IEA is the national real estate organization which was formed in 1998 through the merger of 3 real estate bodies, namely the Association of Singapore Realtors (ASR), the Association of Singapore Real Estate Agents (ASREA) and the Society of Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers Accredited Estate Agents (SOCREA).
The mission of IEA is to represent the real estate profession. It's aim is to be the voice of the real estate agents, and also, to be their professional platform. Its objective is to promote and advance the interest of its members as well as to protect the interest of the public in the engagement of members for real estate services.
Since its formation, IEA has conducted real estate certification programmes for its members; such as Certified Estate Agents (CEA) Course, the National Skills Recognition System (NSRS) Training & Evaluation, Common Examination for House Agents (CEHA), Pre-CEHA Courses, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Courses. These training courses have enabled its members to be kept abreast of estate agency practices, code of conduct and ethics as well as current property rules, regulations and government policies.

Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) is the recognized body representing all Registered Estate Agents in the country. MIEA has certainly come a long way since the pioneering days in 1970s. A small dedicated group of estate agents that included Paul Lee, Tony YT Lee, T Mahima Singh, Joseph Peh, Colonel Gill, Thinahara Kumar and Ernest Y Y Cheong met regularly to eventually form the Malaysian Association of Real Estate Agents (MAREA), the predecessor of MIEA, in 1974. Mr Paul Lee became its Protem President and when it was officially registered on April 14, 1977, P.P. Ernest Cheong became the inaugural president of MIEA.
In 1977, MAREA was registered after their first constitution was approved by the Registrar of Societies. The then Minister of Housing and Local Government, Y B Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui, gave us his blessings and support for the formation of the Association of Estate Agents, solely to be a body responsible for the actions of Real Estate Agents in Malaysia. With the coming into force of the Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Amendment Act on the 6th of December 1984, and the active property market and development trends, the Association decided to change the image from that of a trade association to a professional institute. The name "Malaysian Association of Real Estate Agents" (MAREA) was then changed to "Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents" (MIEA) on May 3, 1989. The institutes official new name was to bring it more in line as a professional body, interested in maintaining the standards of the profession so that it would no longer be treated any less than other professions. The Association started with only 37 Founder Members. One year later, the membership stood at 63 members. In 1984, the council went on a membership drive to recruit members from Perak, Kuantan, Johore, Seremban and throughout Selangor and the Federal Territory and membership rose to 163 by the end of 1984. The largest recruitment of members happened in 1994 which saw MIEA increase its membership from 369 members to 632 members under the leadership of PuanKhatijah Abdullah. With the increasing number of members, MIEA followed by opening branches in Penang, Perak, Johore, Sabah, and Sarawak.
Along with expansion within Malaysia, MIEA realised that to prosper in today's globalized world, they needed to form alliances with international real estate associations. Bilateral Co-operation agreement between MIEA and the National Association of Realtors (N.A.R) of the United States of America was signed. Also, an inaugural meeting was held with the President of real estate associations of Philippines, Singapore and Thailand to explore the concept of forging an alliance among real estate associations within the ASEAN region. In 1995 a bilateral agreement was signed with the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA), and Association of Singapore Realtors. MIEA has grown from strength to strength and is ready to meet the new challenges ahead. The official opening of the new MIEA premise is indeed a poignant & dignifying moment in the history of the institute and an achievement of its membership. We can now proudly attest that we are indeed equals among the other professional associations.
